We dropped off more furniture today to friends, one stealth drop in the middle of town before a brunch, and a trip out to the suburbs for a second load to another set of friends. We have the couch, the bed, a few small items left and Shayne's desk. The floor is littered with bags, blankets, random small piles of things to do.

It looks like a belongings bomb went off, we look really disorganized. It's hard to continue to look at everyday but I know we are making a dent - I know that it's coming together.

It's amazing how when faced with making decisions around what to keep, the importance of things begins to wane as we get closer to the time to leave.

We came to this apartment with no furniture, just a few bags and the cat, and our final days will be the same. It's coming together, while we are breaking apart collections, furniture and things that were so important in a life we don't have anymore.

It's hard to not feel sad, scared, and overwhelmed. 30 days from now we'll be checked into the airport and waiting, probably in a daze of excitement, hopefully relaxing as much as we can. I'm sure Shayne will be way more chill than I.

How am I handling the stress, you ask? By "breathing through my eyelids"

If anyone has seen the scene in Bull Durham where a baseball fan and helper tells a young pitcher to "breathe through your eyelids", that's me lately. Susan Sarandon's character in this movie is amazing, she helps young baseball players focus but in the oddest of ways. I don't think it is even remotely possible for humans to breathe through their eyelids but I try to think of that scene lately when I need to refocus my feelings, actions, and direction with this move. I have to say the idea of even beginning to breathe with my eyelids has stopped me enough to help get me through, I usually end up at least smiling if not outright laughing. There's a really great article I read on mindfulness and eyelid breathing, giving the movie as a example of how to not pay attention for a second to regroup.

Leave it to me to find a movie reference to help me through a stressful situation.
