When we were at Web Summit in the Fall, we were absolutely astounded at the way the conference was so well run amidst a pandemic. While we were there, we were also floored by the amount of government officials that spoke about Portugal wanting to make it easier for digital nomads and remote workers to come to Portugal.
Portugal has since passed some new legislations that help workers achieve the work life balance that was so lacking pre-pandemic, and what seems to have driven the Great Resignation. Now, only under special extenuating circumstances can an employer contact an employee after hours.
We heard loud and clear at Web Summit that Portugal wants digital nomads to come and live in Portugal, and experience all the wonders it has to offer. This amongst many reasons is why we are working so hard to get ourselves there.
These new laws which also include reimbursements for at home worker's utilities. These moves really show that Portugal is trying to become a front runner in work from home culture.
We can't wait to see what they'll do next to continue to change the game of remote work and further position themselves as a model country for the post-pandemic world.
